Picking Fruit
October 10, 2018

If you’re like me, you like to eat fruit. If you’re also like me, you only like certain fruit. At certain times. During certain seasons. And if the only option I have to eat is strawberries or kale, I’d choose strawberries over kale any day!

Most of the time when we go to the grocery store, we pretty much choose the fruit by what we see, if it seems appetizing or not. Have you ever thought about the fruit that aren’t on the shelf? Or those they don’t have massive quantities of them because they are out of season? Personally, I never think about watermelons in the winter because I never see them in the winter.

Moving on to a spiritual aspect, when you walk with the Holy Spirit, you will bear fruit:

“But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!”

Galatians 5:22-23

No matter what season you are in, you will find yourself relying on certain fruits as you go about your daily lives.

One of our values at Elevate is to Choose Joy. We always have something to be joyful for! But what do you do when you have a child who isn’t showing obedience to your direction, or maybe a certain temptation keeps popping up in your mind and you know you shouldn’t give in?

Maybe you aren’t in a season of choosing joy, but really you’re in a season of choosing to have self-control, or choosing to be patient. I encourage you, when you come across a situation, don’t throw a prayer up and say, “God if it is your will, give me peace.” IT IS HIS WILL! When a situation arises, talk to God and say, “Give me peace now.”

I recently had to do this with someone and the minute I said “God, give me kindness,” all of my emotions went away and I had a desire to make it right with that person.

When we walk with the spirit, we have the fruit. He has given it to us. It is up to us to choose the fruit and rely on it in the season we are in.
