There is nothing like being saturated in God’s presence. This past Sunday, worship was exactly what I needed after feeling as if my husband and I were getting constant bad news. To be completely transparent, the past few weeks have been a roller coaster of emotions. I’ve just grounded and surrounded myself in prayer and worship.
I was encouraged after my friend’s 3 year old daughter came up for prayer. She said she needed help and knew the answer was to lay it before God. I was trying to keep it together hearing her prayer request and seeing her know wholeheartedly that by coming to the father, her prayers would be heard and answered. Her child-like faith was the sweetest thing I’ve ever seen. She trusted that God would move and meet her needs.
It is when life gets tough that we should press into Him more through prayer and worship.
“GOD met me more than halfway, he freed me from my anxious fears. Look at him; give him your warmest smile. Never hide your feelings from him. When I was desperate, I called out, and GOD got me out of a tight spot. GOD ’s angel sets up a circle of protection around us while we pray. Open your mouth and taste, open your eyes and see— how good GOD is. Blessed are you who run to him. Worship GOD if you want the best; worship opens doors to all his goodness.” Psalm 34:4-9 MSG
There are three main points that stick out to me in this scripture:
1. He meets us more than halfway and frees us from our fears. God always surpasses our expectations when we call on Him. Tell Him your needs so He can act upon your behalf. Those who ask, receive Matthew 7:7. He will free you from your anxious thoughts and situations, just pray out to Him.
2. Prayer brings protection. While we pray we are surrounded by God’s angel. God is immediately working when we bring our situation to him. I once heard a pastor say, Isn’t it amazing how precise we can be with our worries and how generic we can be with our prayers. Philippians 4:6 NLT says don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Pray specific prayers over your situation.
3. Worship opens door to his goodness, you are blessed if you run to him. Worship sets the tone and puts you in an atmosphere of expectancy. Whenever life throws its curve balls I always find myself in worship more often than usual. Worship is where I hear God the loudest and it is when I am clearing out the noises and focusing on Him. I just have to break through all the chaos that can cloud a circumstance to get to His goodness.
Prayer and worship are catalysts for breakthrough, they have the ability to break down walls and chains. Worship is our response to God’s awesomeness. Praise him for what He has done and what He has yet to do.
