God Hears You
October 18, 2017

There has been a lot that has changed in the last month and a half. Houston has changed, people are different and the normal we all once knew has been shifted. From the little things like more traffic during morning commutes to living out of a hotel because of flood damage. However you have been effected by Hurricane Harvey, we know that it is significant to you. Many of us are striving to find that joy that Harvey stripped from us.

The Psalms are full of encouraging words that David wrote to the Lord. They are actually songs that expressed David’s innermost joys and pains to God. David felt that he could be totally honest in his feelings. One specific verse speaks so well of how David saw God. Psalm 18: 6 says, “In my distress I called to the Lord; I cried to my God for help. From his temple he heard my voice; my cry came before him, into his ears.”

This verse has been a staple to me since I was in high school – it has carried me through the toughest times. It lets us know that God is always listening to us. He wants us to know that he is ready to hear from us!

But God wants to hear your prayers in complete transparency. Don’t be vague in your prayers, tell God how you are honestly feeling and what you need. He is always ready to listen, but can do so much more when you trust him fully.

If you read the entirety of Psalm 18, you’ll see David expose his fears to God. He felt like the world was coming against him, like he had nowhere to run. But David trusted and loved the Lord. And he came through! David says he came to his rescue and made the things that he was running from fall at his feet. David was made stronger and learned that God would always come to his rescue.

Maybe Harvey took everything you had from you. Maybe you feel like nothing is working out. Or maybe you just can’t find joy. God is waiting for you to turn to Him. He wants you to trust Him with your hurts so that he can bring joy to you! Trust God – He knows exactly what you need to be rescued from.
